Air Quotes

air quotes indicate that what is being said is ironic or you are mocking it.

Basically what you are “air quoting,” you don’t really mean, believe or agree with.

Ex:  The thief said he “accidentally” took the money.  (Air quotes for “accidentally” = you believe it was not an accident)

Ex:  He sleeps with many women, but he “loves” his girlfriend.  (Air quotes for “loves” = you don’t believe he really loves his girlfriend.
