Nip Something In the Bud
Literal Meaning:
= cut (kill) the plant before it blooms
Figurative meaning:
= to solve a problem early before it becomes a big problem
Ex: I don’t have to pay the fine until a month from now, but I’m going to “nip it in the bud” and pay it today.
Ex: I don’t have to do the homework until Sunday night, but I’m going to “nip it in the bud” Friday, so I don’t have worry about it.
