Stand Up For

= to defend a person/ group or idea who is being criticized or attacked

Ex: If we see someone getting bullied, we should “stand up for them” and defend them from the bully.

Ex: I’m proud that I wasn’t afraid to “stand up for myself” when they said something bad about me.

Ex: We should all “stand up for the fair treatment of all humans in the world” and help those in need of help.

Stand Up To

= to hold and defend your position when being challenged

Ex: He “stood up to his parents” when they told him to stay home, and he told them he was leaving.

Ex: If the bully says something mean, she will “stand up to him” and tell him to stop. She won’t run away.
