On Fire

= doing very good, a streak of good results

(“On fire” is used often to describe athletes who are on a great streak.)

 

 

Ex: Sarah is “on fire” at her new job. She will get promoted quickly.

Ex: The basketball player was “on fire.”  He never missed a shot in the game.

 Hot

You may see a similar description of “being hot.”

Ex: The team is “hot” right now after winning five games in a row.

Ex: The soccer player is really “hot” right now, scoring a goal in each of the past four games.

Cold

The opposite description of one’s performance of being “hot” is being “cold.”

Ex:  The player is very “cold.”  He has missed every shot this game.
