Al Green is an American gospel, R&B, and soul music singer.
He became very famous in the 1970s.
He was born in 1946, in Arkansas, America.
He was the 6th of 10 children born in his family.
He started his first band in 1967.
In 1970, he released the famous single “Tired of Being Alone.”
Then in 1972, he released the singles “Let’s Stay Together,” and “I’m Still In Love With You.”
In 1974, his girlfriend assaulted him and then committed suicide.
She was already married, but when Al Green refused to marry her, she committed suicide.
As a matter of fact, ironically 4 months before, he released the famous single “Let’s Get Married.”
While he was taking a shower, she threw a boiling pan of grits on him.
Then, she found his gun and committed suicide.
After that experience, he decided to change his life.
In 1976, he became a preacher for an evangelical church in Memphis, Tennessee.
He continued to make music, but his album sales became less.
In 1995, he was inducted in the Rock N Roll Music Hall of Fame.
For me, he was the first singer I liked who sang about love and relationships.
