1)Blow up

= to explode

Ex: The bomb will blow up soon.

 

present tense- The bomb is “blowing up.”

past tense- The bomb “blew up.”

2)Blow (something) up

= to blow air into something.

Ex. I will “blow up the balloon.”

 

present tense- I’m “blowing up the balloon.”

past tense- I “blew up the balloon.”

*Also, you can say “I blew up the balloon too much that the balloon blew up.”  However it is more natural to say “the balloon popped.”
