Virtue Signalling

Virtue Signalling

= saying you love or hate something to show off what a good person you are, instead of actually fixing the problem

(used often with social media)

Ex: Mary posts on Twitter: “I hate FOX news because they’re mean to women.”

John: You should do something about it instead of just “virtue signalling” on Twitter.

Mary: I’m too busy right now. I got so many ‘likes’ on my post!

Ex: Mike: I just think black people’s lives matter and the police should stop killing them.

Amy: That’s very nice of you to say!

Matt: Yeah, every non-racist person thinks that. Stop trying to “virtue signal” Mike, to get everyone to like you.
