Speak of the Devil
= phrase used when a person or an object of discussion unexpectedly becomes present during the conversation
*It is short for: “Speak of the devil and he shall appear.” However, it is a positive term.
Basically, “speak of the devil” means: “Wow, we were just talking about you before you suddenly appeared.”
Ex:
Person #1: “My friend is really cool, I hope you can meet him.”
Person #2: “Yes, I want to meet him.”
Person #3: “Hello”
Person #1: “Wow, “speak of the devil!” We were just talking about you.”
